I purchased a truck with aluminum wheels they have been acid washed awhile back but the wheels have no shine I was wondering what is the process to get the mirror shine. These wheels are very bad I used steel wool on a small part of the wheel then tried to polish it and the wheel still looks horrible. What's a good cleaner and polish

Well you may need a buffer and pads, make sure you get at least three or four pads or bonnets and wool is the best.

Couple hand drill polishing disk, they are cloth pads that look like wheels that fits on your hand drill. they work good around lug-nuts and the tire area.

Keep all your power tools away from the valve stems since they could damage them, think tire shop repair if you screw them up.

I use 3M Final Finish 82878 for tanks and rims, if the surface is highly pitted you may need to do the rim more than once but work around the truck and come back.

I used to pull a show truck and a wagon, it had to be kept polished year round and the 3M always worked for me.

PS: Keep the steel wool away from the Aluminum, steel wool only scratches it more.

Moral of the story......do not acid bathe tanks/wheels.

Surprisingly enough, I have found that by using a product called Gord's Aluminum Polish and using 0000 steel wool, then a red shop rag, then finishing with a microfiber cloth, I can get neglected wheels and tanks looking pretty good without taking a lot of time and effort.

How long does that Gord's last? Right now Im using Blue Majic and it works but you need to do it every couple weeks.

When you get done polishing, put some American Racing Wheel Wax on your wheels.
