I just leased to a carrier based in Oklahoma. Am based in Texas. They provided me with their authority and insurance. They want me to get my own plates. I gave up my authority last year. Am having a hard time with my Texas irp account that i still have. They have a new system where you have to submit everything online for review. I cannot go to the dmv like i used to. This has really frustrated me as am ready to work. I called the dmv in Austin and ended up being on hold for 3 hours. There is a 4-6 week wait and i cannot get temporary. Can i get plates in another state without domicile address? How do i go about this? Thanks
Getting irp plates in texas is a mess.

When you gave up your authority, why did you give up the plates?
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Getting IRP plates in Texas has always been a supreme PIA, and getting IFTA stickers is even worse. Looks like they have upped their game to become even more inept. Can you offer to buy your plate through the company you are leasing on with? Might speed things up a bit.I sure don't envy you having to deal with those idiots.

Arizona is just as much a pain. Took 4 months for me when I first opened an account . Cost me alot of money sitting around not being able to work... we have some third party suppliers that can file this stuff in arizona and they are much more knowledgeable than the dot itself... not sure if that's an option in Texas but it may be worth looking into

Interesting, completely opposite experience here in MI. When you call Irp or Ifta they pickup the phone within 10 min and are very friendly and helpful
.
Also Secretary of State stuff (DMV) is all done by appointment now, very fast and efficient. No more sitting in those buildings for hours.
It sucks that other states can't make things work, because it's obviously possible to do so, since our state made it happen.D.Tibbitt and austinmike Thank this. -
Austin used to have a dedicated commercial license building in central Austin. It was in the old sears service center back when they actually fixed stuff.
For some reason they closed it several years ago.
Last time I was at the one at Lamar and denson was there two (2) hours getting my med card stuff done.exhausted379 Thanks this. -
He has his authority and already had in state plates, so his IRP maybe went faster than your situation. His was about 4 weeks and he just got everything last week.
He's had his own numbers since 99, and I think he was reactivating.
He did get a temp permit to run in state.
A for non domicile, I'm unsure who does that.
If the carrier you're leased on with has a plate program, that would get you working immediately.
I'm based on Texas, but haul steel with a company in Indiana. I had them get me plates so I could work right away.
Texas if over complicated with everything commercial related.exhausted379 and justcarhaulin Thank this.
