A Southwest Airlines flight nearly took off from a taxiway – not a runway – on Thursday morning at Orlando International Airport after the flight crew apparently thought it was on a runway, the FAA said. An air traffic controller noticed the issue and stopped the flight's departure.

Hang around the pilot world and you’ll quickly see they have many of the same issues as us, as far as qualified operators. One major difference, though, we don’t have a Southwest-equivalent playing the woke card and hiring pilots based on DEI versus actual qualifications. Many of Southwest’s pilots are woefully inexperienced and were employed based on their diversity qualifications. It gets a whole lot deeper than my knowledge of the industry. But, suffice to say, many pilots the public would deem the most desirable and most qualified are no longer employed by Southwest, because they don’t fit into their agenda. Unfortunately, the public’s safety has been jeopardized.

This crap happens every day over and over but now every mishap in newsworthy since the two high profile crashes.
Just like they did with train derailments after the big one a few years back. There’s literally thousands of derailments every year and slim to none made the news.
As far as the one you posted I’m sure the controllers weren’t doing their job properly. After all it sounds like they were cleared for takeoff yet TC didn’t confirm their location.
I have flown in and out of that airport countless times and the taxiway is parallel to the runway and looks like a runway.
Where was the media when a commercial jet was flying a couple hundred feet above Tampa BaySirscrapntruckalot, mjd4277, Magoo1968 and 1 other person Thank this. -

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. A few years back a United Airlines flight landed on a taxiway at Newark Liberty Airport instead of a runway by mistake. Part of the issue was that the lighting near the taxiway confused the pilots.
Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this.
