Pretty easy to have one year of experience in vehicle maintenance if someone is actually maintaining their truck. I don’t know about other people, but when I was doing my own inspections I sort of wanted to make sure everything was good to go and that I would pass a level 1 if I had to. I didn’t simply pencil whip an inspection form because you can buy them at a truckstop.

It's a big manual too. My neighbour had his copy on the bench in his garage last summer and I was flipping through it. Lots of stuff to know.

Yeah, just fill out the sticker and slap it on the truck just to appear compliant in the event you get an inspection. If you get a level 2 or 3, you'll get by. Make sure you get an actual inspection eventually though because you never know if you will get a level 1 inspection.

Ontario DOT has F'd everything up here. They're changing over to a computerized system and the usual garage can't do safeties because the DOT hasn't given them their special computer yet. I am ok but there are some guys that need safeties.

Working on your own truck does not count, read the regs.

You have to be employed or take training. It isn't a grey area.

This has already been settled in court and it has been something that the FMCSA has been clear.

Sorry to disagree like this but it opens the door for you to lose more than just work if you get into an accident.

By the way, what does an inspection cost?

A lawyer's per-hour amount is around $200, it is cheaper to get an inspection.

I don't have my notes on all of them but the one I cited, I bought the trucks and trailers and will not say who it is. There are a couple cases in Michigan that are well known. There is no protection for personal assets when there is negligence on the part of the managers/owners, falsifying inspections is one of those things that can lead to piercing the vale.

Put up or shut up! I’ll bet there are other insinuating circumstances involved. Every LEO I’ve spoken to, disagrees with you. They ALL tell me that I’m qualified.

I’ve always done mine. Forms are readily available at fleet pride, truck pro or several other parts suppliers as well as most major truck stops

I have been to different shops that conduct cmv inspections, of the ones that I have been in the truck when inspections are done, NEVER have the wheels been removed!!
Generally, the inspection took about 20+/- minutes, another 10 minutes waiting on the paperwork. Depending on the day, usually waiting in line took far, far longer than the inspection.
