I would like to setup residency in South Dakota and get my CLP there. My question is can I take the DOT physical in another state and bring that to South Dakota or does the DOT physical have to be done in South Dakota before I can test for my CLP?
DOT physical need to be from same state you get your CLP and residence is?

I don’t think there is any requirement for what location the doc was in
I get my DOT physical at the minute clinic at CVS pharmacy.
Seems to be the easiest for me
and remember , the person doing the exam , it won’t be an actual MD doctor ,
It will be a nurse practitioner or maybe a physician assistant,
That person is NOT your partner in health like your regular primary care doctor
do NOT volunteer any medical info unless they specifically ask for it .
And just like talking to the cops , don’t dodge their questions but answer their questions with as few words as possible .
“No I don’t have any trouble falling asleep at night and I sleep all night long and I feel rested when I wake up , no I don’t have any issues falling asleep while driving , no I don’t snore , no I don’t drink any alcohol, etc “
the person doing the exam isn’t trying to help you avoid future health problems, they are looking for reasons to not issue you a two year medical card , they are looking for a reason to issue you a one year card or a three month card . -

Yup can get your dot physical in any state, doesn't matter where u live. Stay away from Concentra.
tscottme, DriftingDrifter and snowmantrucking101 Thank this. -
CDL physicals are a federal requirement, not a state. As long as the medical person doing the physical is on the governments registry, it doesn't matter where you take it. Now, the one thing to remember is, you have to register a copy of your physical with the DMV where your CDL is from. Some states allow you to self register, some states want you to visit a DMV office. I am from FL and have worked for companies all over the country, most of which want their doctor to give you a physical during orientation in some other state. All Florida wants is a copy of my medical card with the doctor's registry and signature scanned in and sent to them.

the nurse doing the physical is supposed to log it into the national database but you still need to get a copy of it to your states DMV
Some states allow email attachments, some want it faxed ,’some want snail mail , some want it hand delivered , some states will accept any method
I do all
Three , I email it fax it and snail mail it . Just to make sure it gets there .tscottme and DriftingDrifter Thank this. -

We got our CPL (learners permit) from Illinois, had our DOT physicals in Iowa, CLD school in Iowa (with DOT test) and went back to the Illinois DMV for our CLD license.
