Well here we go this is my first post on this board. I haven't seen anything about the company I work for so I guess I will start one.

I've been pretty lucky to work for such a great company! No Layoffs, No pay cuts, no Benefit cuts and we still made a profit last year. We are non-union and they do treat us pretty fairly. I work as much hours as I need most of the time, and whenever I need a day off there is never a problem. Dispatch is ok, I'm never forced to back into a place that I don't feel comfortable. Safety First! Hopefully 2010 is a better year for everyone. If you work for Southeastern Freight Lines, please let me know how you like it.:biggrin_2559:

Welcome to the forum bobtailin28. I see their trucks all the time Central FL and wonder who they deliver too. Whats the pay, benefit package like? Also how much experience is required to get on with them. Are their assigned trucks or is it all slip seat?

I'm not going to diss you're opinion of your company.

It is your opinion, and just as valid as any other person who is pleased with their company.

But I will ask you to rephrase that to your area of knowledge (your terminal and running area). Because there HAVE been lay offs and cut backs at Southeastern.

Hey Kinghunter, SEFL is an LTL company. We haul whatever and to whoever basically. The only thing we don't haul is some explosives and radioactive. I'm a local P&D driver so we get paid by the hour. Not all Service Centers make the same hourly but here in Atlanta we make $22.00. Other terminals make around the same not to much less. Our linehaul drivers are paid by the mile around .51cents. I started out as a Driver Trainee 4yrs ago making 18 bucks(with absolutely no experience). I pay $45 a week for all medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for me, wife, and 3 kids. SEFL pays for short term disability which is almost half what we average a week for up to 6 mths. We also have 401k and they match up to 4%. Once a year they give us $100 towards our uniforms. The equipment is ok and handed out based on seniority if you have an assigned tractor and your lower on the senority list your probably driving a non a/c and non radio tractor. All linehaul tractors are much nicer and have a/c and radios. The company is in the process of weeding out these older non ac units though. Hope this was helpful.

Hey danc694u, where have there been layoffs??? The last meeting we had, management was very pleased to announce our profit last year and was very specific about not having any layoffs. In fact I remember many times watching those silly videos with Tobin Cassells(owner) telling us they will do everything in there power not to have any layoffs, or paycuts.
I should be specific about cuts. One thing they make us do is take a mandatory day off once a week or every other week. But if you are in need and want to work and are willing to do anything, they will let you work on your day off. Most guys still get at least 40hrs in 4 days if not more. This is usually only during the slow freight times, but scince the economy fell off the cliff, its been scince last year.

That would be at the N Port Allan, LA terminal. They may say they haven't let anyone go. But I run in there fairly regular, as an outside carrier.

In truth though. They may have offered the guys other positions at other terminals. But the positions were eliminated at that terminal. And they just reduced the hours of receiving this past week. They now want outside carriers to schedule ALL inbound loads in a 3 hour window. 10-1 rather than 10-2

PLEASE don't take this as a slight against you or SE. Hell, everybody has taken a hit within the past year or so. The fact that the terminal is still open....says a lot in my book. ;)

they probably offered them positions at other terminals, or offered them dock positions or maybe linehaul who knows. No harm danc694u, I appreciate an outsiders view on things. Sometimes we do live in our own little world and don't go out much. Ya know what I mean.?

    dancnoone Thanks this.

I saw on the SEFL website that they were taking applications for Atlanta and other areas. I worked 8 years at R+L before leaving for a small flat bed carrier which isn't really working out so well as they are getting slow at paying. Does it take long to go through the hiring process at SEFL? I thought they were just probably taking apps for a list so when things pick up they can pull off it.

Well the hiring process isn't too long or any different from any other trucking company. I mean you go through your background checks, bla bla bla, then go out for a check ride with a safety man, and your in. As long as you have your hazmat, and doubles endorsement you should be ok. I'd call the terminal you applied at and ask to speak with the safety man as soon as possible to move your app along faster.

I got to say atleast SEFL is fair about diving up work. Every one is given a unpaid day off regardless of senority. When I was at Con-Way I didnot work for a whole week and the Senior guys were making overtime. Not complainig mind you, the Manager was up front when he hired me about it. I wish it would have worked out for me there, really believe LTL is a great way to make a living.
