@bzinger is absolutely right. Pepsi in Olathe is hiring at $30 an hour and they have a training program. Sysco in Olathe is hiring. Pavlich in KCK might be worth your time to call. They hire people with limited experience. I’d recommend you start in a superdump class b truck tho if they have one open. If you don’t have much experience driving, being thrown into a frameless end dump would probably not be advisable. Check out Road Runner off Front Street and Express 2000 on Gardner Ave. Price Truck Line on Kansas Ave and Midwest Motor Express on Southern Ave., are usually hiring.

Funny I was originally gonna work for the IBEW but I had trouble in trucking school so I decided maybe a good six months so I don’t flip a truck. Here I am now making six figures no touch freight telling myself it’s only temporary. Just go OTR with a reputable training company. They’ll keep your MVR clean.

Any of those food service outfits pay pretty good. Not the job for a lazy person, but pretty good money and benefits.

    motocross25 Thanks this.

Wow, I am overwhelmed by the responses!!! The owner of the truck driving school I attended recommended RBX Inc out of Springfield, said they take care of their drivers. I submitted my application. They called and said I have a spot with a trainer in September if I still want it. That is a long time for me financially; but, I could probably pull it on unemployment.

I will be heavily researching some of the recommendations of Chinatown and others. I’m still trying to figure out if I should be trying for Local, line-haul, OTR…

I would like to get my dog back. I had to place her with family to move for the IBEW job. I had planned to search for a dog friendly rental when settled. But, being laid off is very unsettling!

Local = always in city traffic, sleep in your own bed and use your won shower.
Linehaul = very difficult for a newby with no experience. Drive nights, sleep days, good money, out of sync with normal people in your life
OTR = live like a stray dog, see much of the country, learn to hate truck stops and anyone driving a 4-wheeler.

I would not be eager to wait more than 30-60 days after CDL school to begin working. But, waiting that period to find a company you really want to work for and one that treats you well is a good plan. You really need to work for your first company for 1 year unless it is impossible, not just inconvenient, not great, money is a little less than you were told. One year of experience will show you what details of the job are important for a long-term employer. Now, you don't know what is important for you and what are details important to other drivers. Almost everyone leaves their first company for a second company that fits them much better. Some drivers are luck and do enough research to find that perfect fit on their first attempt. It's got to work for you.

Regional = Not as stray of a dog, still hate 4 wheelers, usually better home time options, like every weekend.
Dedicated = Same customer, same freight, same lane. Get to know everyone along your route, but can get boring/tedious.
