Are you allowed to sleep in the RVs?

I have slept in harvesters , airplanes and many a load when I was driving a day cab.
The one time I had a military refrigerated mortuary van on the back.
I slept across the seats of the truck that night.

 

No you can't. The company pays for rooms

 

texasmorrell the company I worked for would pay for a motel/hotel room every other night. That is one night in the RV and the next in a room. Yes you can sleep in the RV. I took both sheets and sleeping bag in case the sheets didn't fit the bed. I couldn't smoke in the RV or use the bathroom. I carried a sign that said RV delivery and driver is on a 10 hour break so Truck drivers wouldn't bug me when I parked in a T/S. Also it depends on the RV Dealership if they pay for the hotel/motel room.

Question - May time spent resting /sleeping in a motor homes being delivered be recorded as off duty time ?

Guidance - FMCSA says YES BUT under certain conditions ;

The driver must have been relieved of all duty & responsibility for the care & custody .
The duration of relief from duty must have been made known to the driver prior to the drivers departure in writing .

You can come and go as you please.
The length of time must be long enough to get a decent rest .

Like all regulations what the FMCSA says means nothing if the company has rules prohibiting something .

 

And most companies don't allow it.

That rv is for the customer.Your company will pay for a room.Not any different then someone hauling semis which are more commonly called piggy backs.The driver is hauling a brand spanken new semi to a dealer ,the company pays for their room and usually flys to the next job.Pays real well I guess.
