The professional rivalry between Heniff Transportation and Coal City Cob recently came to a close when an acquisition brought them under one roof. Heniff Transportation reportedly purchased Coal City Cob and its national network, consisting of more than 230 drivers and 500 trailers.

I’ve been friends and a competitor with the Cloonen family for many, many years and this combination now allows us to work together as partners,” Heniff founder and CEO Bob Heniff reportedly said. “Given the complementary nature of the two operations, we believe strongly that this combination will create value for all our stakeholders and offer real service enhancements to our respective customers.”
Based in Oak Brook, Illinois, Heniff operate approximately 2,000 tractors and 5,000 trailers across100 locations. The organization handles chemical and food-grade transport, among others.
TFI International Acquires Groupe Boutin
Ranking among the longest-standing trucking operations in Quebec, Groupe Boutin has reportedly been purchased by TFI International. Since founding the family-owned and operated business nearly 80 years ago, Groupe Boutin accumulated assets that included 170 tractors, 394 trailers, and 333 employees.
“After careful consideration and by mutual agreement, we have come to the conclusion that the time has come to divest ourselves of this sector of activity, which dates back to 1945. From now on, we want to focus on the development of our warehousing division,” a Groupe Boutin press release states. “From the beginning of the process, our employees and customers have been at the heart of our concerns. TFI International, with its desire to maintain current jobs and continue to serve our customers, proved to be our best choice.”
TFI International, also based in Quebec, transports freight throughout Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The massive operation involves upwards of 576 facilities, with 318 in the U.S. and 12 in Mexico. Its less-than-truckload, truckload, and logistics services employ nearly 30,000 people.
Titanium Transportation Opens Windsor-Detroit Location
Expanding its North American freight brokerage footprint, the Titanium Transportation Group opened a second office in the Windsor-Detroit gateway. Titanium possesses 800 power units, 3,000 trailers, 1,100 employees, and works with owner-operators on a regular basis.
“Building on our existing footprint in Windsor, Ont., the opening of our second office at the largest gateway for Canada-US trade reflects our continuous ‘asset-light’ growth strategy for North America,” Titanium president and CEO Ted Daniel reportedly stated. “The expansion of our freight brokerage business compliments our existing fleet and allows us to better address supply chain challenges faced by manufacturing customers at the U.S.-Canadian border.
