Universal is a decent company. I have a good
friend who has been leased to them for several years. He initially had a
difficult time. Once he built a relationship with a few agents, he has been
doing very well. The last 3 or 4 years he has made over $200,000 to the truck.
He pulls a flatbed. He works the load boards and also utilizes his agent
contacts. Regardless of whom you lease your truck, it takes time to learn their
system. He used to run quite a bit of Canada freight. One run he would usually
reload at the same place where he delivered. Those loads paid him $3/mile to
the truck. He averages over $2/mile for all miles run.

I
guess he is a company driver. I have been leased to them about 5 years, they
are a stand up company.
My suggestion is to move up the chain.
Squeaky wheel gets the grease. I know it is a pain, but hold their feet to the
fire and get everything in writing.
I'll call them tuesday and say something to them about it. I'll get back with
ya when they give me a reason for holding this up.

I've run for both ASF and universal and ASF was by far the better conpany. I left them when frieght died last year and went to Universal. Huge mistake.
Universal has never fulfilled their suggestions of "too much frieght" or the classic "$2500 take home weekly." Try $600 take home weekly.
Run away from universal, may as well run for jbhunt, at least they don't nickel and dime you like Universal.
Not to mention, you pay for faulty equipment. So if a
trailer tire blows, which anyone who hauls containers knows is common, you pay
out of pocket.

After coming from another Harrisburg Intermodal co. being with Universal for the last 6 mo. the difference in big considering they pull out of the same yards and in most cases they share same customers. So, after doing a comparison based on settlements, not word of the mouth. Universals pays more and they have an amazing team that's really been great to work with.
