This company help put me through truck driving school and worked with me all the way. Whenever I want home time I tell them and they work their butts off to make it happen. My dispatcher always returns my calls and keeps me rolling.

Pros

No pet deposit, friendly , very homely, family oriented, caring environment

Cons

For a solo driver it takes a little longer to get your truck worked on team takes priority

I was supposed to be out for 2 weeks at a time. That turned into a month at a time. Never saw my family. Their night dispatcher got me stuck in Newark NJ for 3 days over the weekend burning the oil the day of Christmas Eve. Absolutely no home time.

Pros

The other drivers are very nice, very good people. Great safety department. Good people there.

Cons

Never home, night dispatch is absolutely terrible, day dispatch is borderline as bad. Clients are random, and never the same. Horrible management.

I know these reviews are old, but there are always drivers reading them, so, here are some takes on trucking/companies/Big-G. New drivers/others, never let a company think you need them-quite the opposite. Furthermore, its the companies job to get road service and resolve freight issues. The driver who went through all this in their review.... over the years I have had probably 50 loads that were already picked up when I arrived. Brokers will find someone cheaper to haul them and never inform the original carrier-happens everyday. Brokers are some of the biggest crooks in the industry. You need to be paid for layovers and sitting-that is not free time. Always keep the back door open-meaning always have another job in mind so you can go to it the next day. Never take lip off a dispatcher/safety manager, there are too many companies looking for drivers. They always say "we are all family here". Don't believe that for a second. You are only useful as long as they make money off you and if any issue happens-your history. They say " we give you 30 days probation" and you tell them back "I give you 2 weeks and if your no good I'm getting rid of you". Don't trust any company. I personally NEVER work for percentage as I don't like dead-heading for free no matter what percentage pays. When you work percentage, its the brokers who are telling you what your going to work for. Companies too often scam on confirmations pay-sheets. Think of a company as a place to make money, do a job, get paid, then go home and give them no thanks and no smiles because they never appreciate you no matte how many company barbecues or praise they might give. Make sure you ask all the questions before going to orientation. If they don't pay travel expense-forget them. If they have an orientation over 1.5 days you know they are going to have a lot of red-tape attached to company rules and regulations and its just the beginning of micromanagement. Beware of 1099 companies who don't tell you of the up-to $3,000 escrows and fines for log mistakes and blowout tires etc. Yes, up to $1,000 fines for out of service and $700 for forgetting to sign a log. These reviews about Big -G should tell any driver they are no good and should not waste there time on them. There are few good companies to day and its more of searching for a company you can put up with. Big-G sounds like a bottom-feeder as most all companies are today. There used to be a 'move up' from a company like Big-G, but research finds top companies from years gone by have now sunk to the bottom and your only moving from on bottom-feeder to another bottom-feeder. OTR drivers do not do local work-at least I don't. Trucking is not as good as it used to be if you have started driving after 2000. The best days of trucking are gone. Trucks better today-NO, just more electronics to shut trucks down and waiting on small parts. Truck stops better-No, just more expensive and not offering the free things of years ago like free showers and free coffee. Those who say we get points...in the past you only needed 25 gallons to get a free shower and could get a shower ticket from other drivers without a problem. Truckers were given priority over the general public in the stops and restaurants. Another thing is the disappearance of small independent stops with real restaurants. Nothing is really better, more roads and more traffic. More regulations and red-tape. More people out here driving a truck-but not real truckers. Not much consideration and few 'old-school' values. Not much physical/appearance distinction between a beach-bum and a driver. Driving is much more difficult today and there is almost no fun in it. Lastly-where have all the CB radios gone? Does anyone out here speak English?

Pros

A place to earn some money/

Cons

New generation drivers who have no decent values (no all new drivers) 'Travel centers' as there are few truck stops left. Poort treatment of drives by companies such as Big-G.

Great place to work! They have the miles if you are willing to run! Dispatch calls you every day to check in when are working.

Pros

communication, helpful, miles, trucks, family owned

Cons

CPM is a little low but there are enough miles to make up for it.

Stay away from this company, Big M Transportation in Blue Mountain, MS!!!!!... They cheat you out of runs on your pay and say you didn't turn in the bills for it and won't bill it out and then you don't get your bonus at the end of the month.. They also make you pay for thier truck by keeping you 2 weeks behind in pay, and making you pay the insurance deductible if anything happens on the road or they make you just pay for it out of your check in payments at 25% interest. This place is a joke! They got more ways to take you money than congress.. And if you decide to leave they will give you a bad reference so you can't get another job and you'll be stuck here.. I loved trucking till I came here and now they say so much stuff that's not true when folks call for a reference that it's just not even funny... I've been here since '08 never been late, missed a pickup or drop, or had an accident and from what I'm hearing they say I'm a bad driver, and never on time! This place sux, I think I'm gonna go back to work in a factory... Look out for Big M and thier safety director, he's a liar and a cheat and does it all while looking you in the eyes!!! These folks are just bad news all the way around..

Big M transportation

So I finally left Big M... They tried to hold my last checks, I had to have the police to go with me to get them, they told my current employer I was fired and I had totaled a truck there in 2001.. My current employer asked how that happened when I didn't get my cdl till 2004.. They crewed up my dac with all kind of false reporting... These guys are scum, I was top 8 of 355 drivers when I left and thats how they did me when I left... It's sad

Big M transportation

In the last couple of months, I've seen Big M trucks involved in several accidents. Two single vehicle run-off-the-road, one single vehicle rollover, and one rear ending a four wheeler on the interstate. This says to me that either they are hiring bad drivers or just have a company culture of operating in an unsafe manner. It's just striking to see one company's vehicles involved in so many accidents in such a short period of time. I, personally, have no experience with Big M, so my analysis of what this means is pure speculation. I'd love to hear a Big M drivers perspective on this.
