Super load in TX accident kills three

I was looking at the pictures more with what you said in mind. It looks like the yellow highlighted chains went to the big lugs, one on each side. Also the skid poles are still on the top of the load, that leads me to believe the load didn’t roll to the side, maybe I’m missing something.
Just trying to learn, I would love to do some bunk and dolly loads someday.

 

The two that were killed were pretty young (22 and 17). Stuff happens, we all know it does. Without the proper information it’s hard to point fingers at what happened.

 

I didn’t mean like actually rolling out of the saddle, just the force of the load wanting to roll/ torque.There’s probably a better term but idk

you can see under the saddle the turntable leans, It’s that side to side force, it’s a cylinder it wants to roll
Basically they had nothing for the side to side motion. The ones you highlighted and the chains over the top should have just been their extras.
Most of the chains should have been concentrated on going under, around, and back.

Also they were depending on the welds way more than they should have. There should be a bunch of chains straight from the saddle to the turntable. I don’t see any.

at those weights we always said the chains are just for show. If you do anything dramatic theres no reasonable amount of securement that’s gonna stop it.
Theres way more brakes than you could ever need on the trailers like I said before. I think that’s the biggest part of this. He used too much brake

 

Just for everyone’s benefit, here are two clear pictures of the accident.
It’s clear the back turntable did not fail, at least completely. It looks like the back of the load/saddle just fell off due to the securement. There are quite a few holes where I assume lashing rings used to be.

Here is a similar load that I took a picture of last year, I had to screenshot a portion of a larger panoramic.
The load is secured in a similar fashion. with quite a few more chains, but everything is indirect, straight over the top.

When you say “under, around, and back” do you mean hooking both ends of the chain to the same side of the turntable? I could see how that would provide more side to side securement.

edit to add: sure looks like there should be more securement points in the famonville turn table for a dual lane trailer. The picture I took was on a 8 axle dolly and there are significantly more d rings.
